The Degenaissance Collection
“Every renaissance comes to the world with a cry, the cry of the human spirit to be free.” — Anne Sullivan Macy
In the Degenaissance, everything old is renewed and reformed. Gods run with drunkards, fools dance with deities, saints frolic with the damned.
Degenaissance is a collection of animated collage by @TheTwilightZane
Canonical figures from renaissance paintings inhabit a modern nightclub, letting their sins and desires run wild.
With subtle animation, 3D camera techniques and a wonderful selection of source images, the collection welcomes the viewer into a world of Bacchanalian delight.
The series is comprised of ten animated GIFs plus a one-minute animated video which draws the collection together. All of the pieces have been minted on OpenSea as NFTs.
The main video piece Degenaissance also incorporates another NFT from TheTwilightZane’s personal collection — Cat Eye Girl by Muimooi.
All of the original artworks used in this composition were sourced from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Open Access collection.
